Every month I say to my director, "Wow this step makes this feel so real, like it's really happening." These past couple of months, have been such an amazing adventure, but it's incredible that we finally started filming!
PILOT PRODUCTION
This past month was tough, but we were successful with all our goals!
We now have a casted team of actors!
We acquired a few micro-loans to get us started!
We just filmed our Promo! Our first film shoot for Scare Actors!
We did have a hiccup with casting. Our first casting call we had cast Lynn, Ms. Keys, and Xiao. However we only acquired a few auditions for Jordan, and they didn't quite capture the character we imagined. And it didn't help that about a week and half after that our actor playing Xiao had to drop out. It was just bad timing.
But, after a meeting, my director and I decided to open up both character's demographics to have a bigger pool of auditions. And we found some amazing actors when we did!
We also have a Director of Photography and an Editor join the team, both are individuals my director and I met at an internship. And wow, they are incredibly hard working professionals.
So the Promo is currently being edited, and when it's done we'll be jumping into kickstarting!
After a little research, we decided to try Indiegogo. Unlike Kickstarter, Indiegogo lets you take whatever funds you get from campaigning.
Now I can be pretty frugal, so I think we'll be able to work with whatever funds we get. I have worked on a budget, and if we want to pay everyone a fair pay, make the set designs we want, and use the equipment we want, we'll need a grand total of $12,000. I have noted the areas that we can cut in my books, and this is also to help pay off the micro-loans. However, we will work with what we get!
Another new development, we spoke with a few investors, and they encouraged us to aim to make the Pilot into more of short film. I had to think about it for a little bit, taking this path would involve re-writes, potentially bigger budget, and step away from the original creative idea. But a short film could have a better chance at pitching the project for a greater scale down the line. If you think about it... a pilot is the introduction to a story and a short film has the whole story, just shrunk down. So, I think we're going to try to tweak some things to hopefully encapsulate this new progression in our project.
But the real kicker is... we are still planning on filming in late June and July, only time will tell if we're able to get this done in time. "Tune in next month for the thrilling adventure of The Making of Scare Actors!"
To sum up... I've got two big goals to do this month.
Script Re-writes: I've already started to brainstorm, but getting it finished later this month will be a great challange as a writer.
Campaign: We should have our Indeigogo campaign going in about a week. And from there we'll see what we can do!
It'll be busy, but that's literally been this whole year so far... so let's keep it going!
How's the Audiobook Coming?
The author and I decided to take a small break with recording. She's very busy and I'm very busy, but I did plan on getting back to the book as soon as I can.
Voice Acting Updates!
I'm recording lines for Project Eden's Garden. I'm having a lot of fun with this character, and I can't wait to see where the story goes!
I was recently cast in an independent animated movie, which is incredibly Amazing! I don't believe I'm allowed to really talk about it just yet. But when I can I'll be sure to share!
Maddy Goshorn Media Projects!
I was able to do another book trailer, this one for Dr. Velma Bagby's The Catch That No One Wants. And we're already talking about doing another one soon!
By the way if you know the show Chain Reaction on the Game Show Network, I was very fortunate to be on it a few weeks ago with some good friends! It was a blast to be on! You can find it on Philo.
And that's about it! I'm still working on the craft, auditioning all the time, and working online with my fellow creators. I'm taking business classes with NEW Women's Business Center in Los Angeles, which hopefully will help me with figuring out the business stuff of the project.
